How it was found: clicking through a fresh BOS ISO (
16b4bb8) in QEMU on 2026-10-13. bos-settings Printers page shows "The printing service isn't answering. lpstat: Scheduler is not running."systemctl is-enabled cups.service cups.socket= disabled/disabled in the live session.Confidence: high for the live session. Installed systems enable cups.socket in iso/airootfs/etc/calamares/post-install.sh line ~549, so it is only live-media behaviour.
Bug: a user trying the live USB with a printer can't print or add one, and the error reads like something is broken.
Fix: enable cups.socket (and avahi-daemon.socket if wanted) in the live airootfs (multi-user.target.wants / sockets.target.wants symlink), matching post-install. Separately bos-settings could offer "Start printing service" rather than the raw lpstat text.
PR opened: #95 (Breadway/bos #95)
Head SHA:
94b7b1ff46Adds the cups.socket symlink to the live airootfs (sockets.target.wants) and a staged-image assertion in scripts/ci-verify-bake.sh. Verified by bash -n and a fixture only. Not verified live, no ISO baked. Needs independent review.
